Geese under stormy sky, clouds.
[A gaggle of geese in a field at Indiwell, Swimbridge. Storm clouds are in the sky overhead. The geese were a breeding flock which lived on the hill between 1980- 1992, after which they moved to Milborne Port, Dorset where they could often be seen grazing in the fields below the deer park of Sherborne Old Castle. The eggs were collected for hatching on the farm and goslings were sent out to homes all over the UK. Infertile eggs would sometimes be used by artists for egg decorating.]

A friend who lived in Swimbridge at the time James took the photographs has given me some information: The geese were kept for their eggs not for meat, the fertile eggs being sent to a hatchery and the goslings to various outlets to be raised. The owners were Nick and Catherine and he goose farm closed when they separated. I don’t think their farm was financially viable and that was the root of their problems but they were lovely folk. The goose farm closed in the very early 1990’s.
